Events Abbots
2009

A morning conference was held at the Teatro Sociale of Castiglione delle Stiviere on September 19,
2009:
The
Abbots of Castiglione delle Stiviere.
Church
and Power between the 16th and 18th Centuries”.
In the afternoon of the same day, the exhibit
“Fausto
and Giuseppe Pastorio.
Portraits
of two Abbots from Castiglione”
opened in the Sala dei paesaggi, the
“Landscapes Room”, of the Palazzo Bondoni Pastorio.
The exhibit shows two large portraits of Fausto and
Giuseppe Pastorio. Fausto (1556 – 1610) was the first Abbot of
Castiglione, and worked closely with Prince Francesco Gonzaga. He had a key
role in the beatification process of Luigi Gonzaga.
Giuseppe (1660/65 – 1743) was the last Abbot
designated by the Gonzaga and kept his role for many years, even under the
Austrian domain.
Some important unpublished documents are also
displayed in the exhibit, together with some objects owned by the Pastorio
Abbots: among them are a rare ceramic dish with the initials of Fausto with the
pastoral staff, and the seal used by Giuseppe during his office.
The exhibit was closed on June 2010.
